About the Event
American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) is a native perennial plant that grows in forests throughout Eastern North America and has long been harvested for trade and medicine. This hands-on workshop is designed to teach participants everything they need to know to start their own backyard ginseng farm. The entire workshop will take place in the woods, where we will learn how to identify ginseng in the wild, explore ginseng's habitat and its companion plants, and learn how to plant, care for, and responsibly harvest this small but picky plant. Participants will receive free educational materials as well as stratified ginseng seed to do some test plantings at home. Additional ginseng seed and Justin's Guide to Ginseng Habitat will be avallable for purchase at the event. Come on out and get ready to grow your own! This is a FREE workshop cohosted by the Northeast Forest Farmers Coalition (NFFC) and Wild Hudson Valley.
