About the Event
Join us for a hands-on workshop to learn about growing edible mushrooms on logs! Mushroom logs (called bolts) are a great way to utilize wood from your property to produce healthy and nutritious food. At this outdoor workshop, each participant will go through each step of the process of inoculating mushroom bolts for outdoor cultivation. We'll see shiitakes mushrooms growing on bolts and learn what types of wood are best for growing different species of mushrooms, where to source mushroom spawn, and how to take care of your bolts to ensure bountiful harvests. Participants will also come away with an understanding of mushroom anatomy, life cycle, and identification. At the end of the workshop, each participant will go home with their own inoculated shiitake mushroom log, which will produce mushrooms several times a year for years to come! This is a beginner course - no skills are required, and all materials are provided.
