About the Event

Join us to explore the forests and meadows of the Pine Lake Environmental Campus through the lens of Northeastern Native languages, history and folklore. Between the Late Woodland Period and the colonial era, the upper Susquehanna River and Oneonta region experienced dynamic population change. From the Iroquoian Susquehannocks to the Oneida and Tuscarora hamlets in the early 18th century and finally, to the thriving Mohican community that lasted until 1778, this region was inhabited by different peoples who enriched the diversity of species through their land management methods. On this guided walk, led by ethnoecologist Justin Wexler of Wild Hudson Valley, participants will learn about the day-to-day lives of Northeastern Native Peoples and their relationship with the flora and fauna that supported them here centuries ago.

Note: This event is free, but space is limited and registration is required.
