About the Event
Join us for our fifth annual workshop all about ramps! For this special foraging workshop, we'll be teaching about the odoriferous ramp/wild leek (Allium tricoccum): the plant's lifecycle, best harvesting practices, and how to plant and grow it. And this year, we're broadening our focus: instead of solely focusing on ramps, we'll also explore the many other edible and medicinal plants that grow in early spring in the same forested habitat. Everyone will all get the chance to plant ramp bulbs, and at the end, we'll enjoy some ramp-based snacks!
When you register, you will have the option of adding 20 ramp bulb transplants (a $35 value on it's own) to your ticket, so that you can go home and start your own ramp patch!
Bring comfortable clothes and shoes for walking, and a trowel/digging tool, if you have one. This workshop will take place entirely in the woods (no bathrooms - just the great outdoors). Note that the timing of this workshop is towards the end of ramp season. This is strategic because ramp bulbs are best transplanted when they are dormant. By waiting until the tail end of the season, we get the best of both worlds: we can still show people ramps growing and we can offer high quality ramp bulb transplants for participants to start their own patch!
We're excited for this workshop to be included as part of Foraged New York, a foraged food festival with events taking place all over the region from May 4-10, 2026. Check out the festival and see where else you can learn about and taste wild foods!
