About the Event
American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) is a native perennial plant that grows in forests throughout Eastern North America and has long been harvested for trade and medicine. This hands-on workshop is designed to teach participants everything they need to know to start their own backyard ginseng farm! The entire workshop will take place in the woods, where we will learn how to identify ginseng, explore ginseng's habitat and its companion plants, and learn how to propagate, care for, and responsibly harvest this small but valuable plant. Participants will all get to taste ginseng herbal tea, and everyone will go home with educational materials and stratified ginseng seeds to do some test plantings at home. Additional ginseng seed and Justin's Guide to Ginseng Habitat will be available for purchase at the event. Come on out and get ready to grow your own! This workshop is FREE through the generous sponsorship of the Northeast Forest Farmers Coalition (NFFC).
