About the Event
Centuries ago, local people spoke a dialect of an Algonquian language that is now called Munsee. The Munsee language is rich with beautiful, descriptive names for flora and fauna. Join us for a tour of Vlei Marsh and learn how local indigenous species names describe their uses and roles in native culture. This walk is guided by ethnoecologist Justin Wexler of Wild Hudson Valley, an explorer of Hudson Valley native culture, language, and history for twenty years. These walks view local ecosystems through the lens of Hudson Valley indigenous language and folklore.
