About the Event
We hope you will join Hortulus Anime, Wild Hudson Valley & The Petronio Residency Center on Sunday August 28 to celebrate the first growing season of Waawtäawtheyakwe: Those That Sustain Us. We are very excited to announce the first season of Waawtäawtheyakwe(Wao-Tuh-Thee-Yah-Kwe), a growing collaboration between Hortulus Anima, Wild Hudson Valley, the Petronio Residency Center and with the help and support of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community's tribal council. Waawtäawtheyakwe is an educational garden installed at the Petronio Residency Center, and was conceived as a land acknowledgement in physical form-an an active reminder and connection to the land and the function it held for the Muh-he-con-ne-ok (Mohican people). In an effort to shine light on the horticultural practices of the Muh-he-con-ne-ok people, many of which are influential to our work at Hortulus Animae, Waawtäawtheyakwe pairs the conservation, propagation and cultivation of heritage plants with informational signage that honors and highlights the indigenous history of the region and the Muh-he-con-ne-ok people.
