About the Event
For this workshop, we will cover the long history of Northeastern use of native tree bark and bast for making containers, bags, tumplines, and more. The first half of this workshop will include a woodland walk with tree identification and examples in how to peel bark and bast from elms, basswoods, and other tree species; the second half is hands on and all participants will leave with the ability to locate the right species, peel bast or bark, and twist bast into cordage. Advance registration for this event is required, and space is limited. However, admission for this event is included in an Eco Camp reservation! Weekend camp guests get to join us for our Friday Night Fire (with s'mores!), our Saturday morning tree bark medicine workshop, and this Sunday morning Bark and Bast Fiber Workshop.
